Lingerie as Outerwear: We're Bringing Purple Back

Today’s Lingerie as Outerwear post is an ode to the color purple. What with all the dreary grey skies and the slushy smudge color of the great outdoors, I’ve found myself pining for some scintillatingly beautiful color. A visual pick me up to get me through this weird winter weather. Why purple you may ask? Funny story, I was walking down the street during my lunch hour and a woman passed me wearing the most amazing purple coat. I swiveled on the spot to get better look at her outfit and we came face to face just like the “W oman in Red ” in the Matrix . Thankfully she wasn’t pointing a gun at my face; she just wanted to ask me for directions, but I credit her bold color choice with turning around my whole day! That, and I really like the color purple and think the world should wear more of it! It all began with this cream Pati. Olie Vienna Corset with the Spring colored applique. The high neckline keeps the lingerie in respectable mode, while the pleats and embellishments are deman...

Lingerie as Outerwear: Sugar 'N Spice

We all know girls aren’t made of ‘sugar and spice and everything nice’, the Madonnas and Anna Wintours of the world have certainly helped to dispel that myth! But that doesn’t mean we can’t dress that way. Today’s Lingerie as Outerwear outfit is very much an homage to girliness. I was feeling a little Breakfast at Tiffany’s and nostalgic for the Pretty in Pink sartorial splendor that is Molly Ringwald and lo and behold, I had created a pretty nifty little outfit! The Zinke All Things Nice Lace Jumper really started the whole thing. I love the way it covers up the entire front of the body and exposes the back. It isn’t often a woman’s back is the prime display, which is a shame, because we should look just as fabulous entering the room as leaving. I paired up the jumper with this high waisted, tiny belted, full skirt that falls just below the knee. The swinging fullness of the black skirt shows off the sensual cling of the sugar colored jumper. The hemline of the skirt doesn’t quite...

Lingerie as Outerwear: The Strappy Look

Happy New Year! Who doesn’t love a little zing and bling to ring in the New Year? After an incredibly long season of dressing up, sequins and glamour, I have been yearning to create a slightly more hip and fun look. Something that would really let you show off your fabulous taste in lingerie, in a new and unexpected way. Basic black is too easy to sneak into your wardrobe, let’s really take on the challenge this time! For today’s fabulous Lingerie as Outerwear inspiration, I decided to find a lingerie set that is super colourful and a bit bold and what better set to begin with than Rebecca Ansah 's beautiful strappy, blue, Mathilda bandeau bra and Zuri silk and elastic briefs. The bandeau-style bra has plenty of coverage and can be worn alone, if you’re the daring type (and don’t live in a snow covered area as I do), or can act as a crop top and draw the eyes to all of those amazing straps above and below. The supple silk will feel extraordinary, while the mesh and elastic provide...

Lingerie as Outerwear: Rocking the Casual

After all of the dressing up and fancy evenings of the past month, I just couldn’t fathom another “ Glam Look ” for our weekly Lingerie as Outerwear adventure. Instead, I decided to see how we can flaunt our lingerie in broad daylight/nightlight while kicking the “Upper Class, Rocker Chic” look. After all, even if you aren’t dining with the folks who sign your paychecks, you still want to go out on the town to kick back and relax once in a while. To start the look off right, I wanted some lingerie that was more than a little edgy. Maybe it revealed a bit more skin or curve than was technically appropriate or maybe it danced on the line of overtly sexy and passably demure. Once again, Lola Haze answers the call with her Signature Romper. Thanks to an artfully placed slit in the middle of the romper’s upper portion of black mesh, the metallic mesh layer below shimmers from within. It will playfully reveal a gentle curve and nothing more. Just enough of a tantalizing tease to bring this ...

Lingerie as Outerwear: Pink and Black All Over

Now that the end of the Holiday season is in view, I thought I would take a moment to reflect on all of the recent fashion trends that have been dominating the parties and soirees. Generally, women’s formal fashions have appeared to fall into two categories 1) What looks like prom wear, full of satin, ruching, random sequins and hemlines so short you can see the belly piercing and 2) Traditional, suit-like, business formal attire that is dark, drab and most definitely covers every available piece of skin. Can you tell that I’m not overly impressed with either option? If you aren’t 17 anymore, then it may be time to hang up the prom gear, although kudos for still being able to fit into it! Everyone sees you at the office wearing your standard uniform of blazer, long skirt, button down shirt and sensible shoes, isn’t a holiday party the time to break out of the mold a bit? So, I started thinking about what a fashionable woman could do to avoid either of the above mocked problems. I decid...
